Chapter Books for Older Readers - ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, cloth edition
First published in 1908.
"The good stars met in your horoscope, made you of spirit and fire and dew," Browning. Introduction by the author.
So does author Lucy Maud Montgomery introduce us to the character of one of English literature's most well-known and beloved heroines ever penned, orphan Anne Shirley, of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES fame.
Anne Shirley arrives to an uncertain welcome at the home of elderly brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla Cuthburt. They had asked for a boy to help them on their farm at Green Gables. This is her story.
For over a hundred years, we have cheered Anne on as she learns her lessons in childhood from the Cuthburts, her "bosom friend" Diana Barry, their interfering neighbour Rachel Lynde, and a host of other friends and neighbours from the tight knit community. All grow to love Anne. As does everyone who reads her story.
Author Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada, and set her books about Anne Shirley nearby. Famous landmarks in the books can still be seen today on the Island.
With illustrations by award winning English painter Sybil Tawse, her first drawings for Anne of Green Gables were published in 1933.
This is a beautifully bound edition in olive green gabardine cloth, with a ribbon marker, and gilded edges. Truly a keepsake gift edition.
Printed and bound in Germany.
